Meet Alissa.
Alissa believes that every learner has layers waiting to be uncovered. Some layers feel easy and natural, while others require patience, creativity, and the right support to unlock. Alissa loves guiding students through that process—helping them recognize their strengths, develop new strategies, and build the confidence that transforms how they see themselves as learners.
With a Master’s Degree in Literacy and certifications in both general and special education (Birth–Grade 6), Alissa brings deep expertise in literacy development, reading comprehension, writing skills, and individualized learning support. She has spent years working with students with diverse learning needs in both classroom and small-group settings, including teaching in a self-contained 12:1:1 special education classroom where differentiated instruction and goal-setting—in collaboration with a student’s IEP—is essential to student growth.
Alissa’s approach centers on meeting students where they are. She blends evidence-based literacy instruction, executive functioning support, and personalized learning strategies to help students strengthen foundational skills while also building independence and resilience. Whether she is working on reading fluency, writing development, or helping a student better understand how their brain learns, Alissa creates a supportive space where students feel capable, understood, and empowered. Additionally, Ali is available for consult regarding IEP meeting prep, planning, and parent advocacy.
Before joining Layered Learning, Alissa’s work also included supporting adolescents with disabilities as they developed career readiness, life skills, and transition planning, giving her a broad perspective on how students with developmental and learning differences can leverage their strengths in the future.
Alissa is thrilled to be joining Layered Learning’s educational therapy and tutoring practice, where she will continue helping students develop the tools they need to thrive both in and out of school.
Ali has availability for in-person sessions in Nassau County and Suffolk County, supporting students in reading, writing, literacy intervention, and individualized academic support. She is also available this summer for on the east end.
